West Indies cricket team vs Pakistan national cricket team match: Shai Hope has been a remarkable performer for the West Indies in white-ball cricket over the past few years.

He produced a magnificent effort during the third and final ODI match between the West Indies and Pakistan in Trinidad on Tuesday.

Hope put up a show with the bat at the Brian Lara Stadium and smashed an incredible century after the West Indies were put into bat first. He played a crucial knock of 120 runs in just 94 balls on the back of 10 fours and five sixes. His effort helped the hosts post a huge total of 294/6 in their 50 overs.

Shai Hope etched his name in the history books as this was his 18th ODI century. He extended his lead on third spot for wicket-batters (WK)with the most tons, with only Kumar Sangakkara (23) and Quinton de Kock (21) ahead of him. Notably, the 31-year-old is only the second player in history, after MS Dhoni, to have five or more centuries under his belt as a wicketkeeper-captain. Hope went past AB de Villiers in the elite list.

Hope is only the third WK Batter captain to score a century against Pakistan in an ODI game after Dhoni and de Villiers. This was Hope’s second century against Pakistan, making him only the third wicket-keeper batter after Jos Buttler (3) and Dhoni (2) with multiple tons in the ODI format against the Men in Green.

Shai Hope goes past Brian Lara to create elite record

The right-handed batter Shai Hope has now equalled Brian Lara’s record of most centuries in ODIs as captain of the West Indies. He has scored five centuries in the 50-over format of the game as the skipper of the team.

During his 17-year-long ODI career, Lara played 125 ODIs as captain of the West Indies and scored five centuries, whereas Hope has captained the national side in just 38 ODI matches so far.
