Old Pension Scheme New Target 2025: The Yogi government has increased the target of old age pension scheme to bring a smile on the faces of poor and needy elders in Uttar Pradesh. After providing pension to more than 61 lakh elders in the first quarter of FY 2025-26 itself, the new target of the government is to provide the benefit of the scheme to 67.50 lakh beneficiaries.

Before 2017, where 37.47 lakh people were benefiting under this scheme, now this number has almost doubled. The government says that if more eligible elders are found than the target, then they will also be included in the plan. This step is not only financial aid, but also strengthens the self -esteem of the elderly.

The number of beneficiaries has increased continuously since the scheme started.

  • 2018-19: 40.71 lakh beneficiaries, ₹ 1879 crore expenditure
  • 2019-20: 47.99 lakh beneficiaries, ₹ 2697 crore expenditure
  • 2020-21: 51.24 lakh beneficiaries, ₹ 3694 crore expenditure
  • 2021-22: 51.92 lakh beneficiaries, ₹ 4277 crore expenditure
  • 2022-23: 54.97 lakh beneficiaries, ₹ 6083 crore expenditure
  • 2023-24: 55.68 lakh beneficiaries, ₹ 6464 crore expenditure
  • 2024-25 (first quarter): 55.99 lakh beneficiaries

It is clear from these figures that the plan is not only sustainable, but is also making access to more elderly every year.

Under the Old Age Pension Scheme, financially weak persons above 60 years of age are given assistance of ₹ 1,000 per month. This amount is sent directly to the base-linked bank accounts of the beneficiaries.

The single nodal account (SNA) system has made the pension process completely digital and transparent. There is no mediator in this, which has stopped corruption and the amount is reaching the beneficiaries on time. Also, this system also makes fund tracking and audit easier.

To get the benefit of the scheme, eligible persons can apply on the website https://sspy-up.gov.in.

  • Annual income limit in rural areas: ₹ 46,080
  • Annual income limit in urban areas: ₹ 56,460

Block Development Officer in rural areas and Deputy District Magistrate in urban areas confirm the application.

With the new target, this scheme will reach more needy elders of the state. The government claims that in the coming time the pension process will be made faster and simplified, so that no eligible elderly people have to be deprived of their rights.
