After NDA’s sweeping victory in the Bihar Assembly elections 2025, LJP (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan met JD(U) supremo Nitish Kumar on Saturday. The meeting has set political circles buzzing as it comes just a day after the NDA crossed the 200-seat mark.
The meeting is being viewed as more than just a courtesy visit, with rumours suggesting Paswan could be positioning himself for the deputy chief minister’s post.
Photos shared by the LJP(RV) chief showed him receiving a warm welcome from Nitish Kumar, marking a remarkable shift from their previously bitter political rivalry. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Paswan said, “I met the CM, congratulated him and extended him best wishes… I am delighted that the CM appreciated the role of every alliance partner in the NDA. He supported the LJP(RV) candidate when he went to vote.”

When asked who would become the next chief minister, Paswan dodged the question.
He addressed the media after meeting Nitish Kumar. “We discussed how the government will be formed, how it will be constituted, and the strategy going forward for our government,” he said.
The interaction comes against the backdrop of the NDA securing 202 seats in the Bihar Assembly elections. Of these, Paswan’s LJP(RV) contributed a significant 19 seats, playing a crucial role in pushing the coalition past the 200-seat milestone.
This is a dramatic turnaround from the 2020 elections, where Paswan’s party, running solo, won just a single seat after aggressively targeting the JD(U).
In 2020, Paswan’s campaign attacked Nitish Kumar with the now-famous slogan: “PM Modi se bair nahi, Nitish teri khair nahi”, and fielded candidates in JD(U) strongholds, severely denting Nitish’s tally. The JD(U) was reduced to just 43 seats, while the BJP emerged stronger with 74.
But this year, the LJP(RV) and JD(U) contested together for the first time, proving to be a winning combination for the NDA.
