The mystery of the dismembered body found in the drain of Noida Sector 39 has now been completely exposed. An investigation that lasted for ten days, hundreds of questions and countless suspicions, amidst all this, a simple silver anklet led the police to the truth, which turned the whole matter upside down in a moment. This case has become a story not only of murder, but also of obsessive love, deception and dreadful decisions.
Beginning of the case: Head missing, identification incomplete, entire city in question
On the morning of 6 November, a woman’s torso was found floating in the drain of Sector 39. Identification was almost impossible because the head was missing. The forensic team investigated and estimated the height of the deceased to be around 5 feet 4 inches. The only clue was the silver anklet found on her feet, which later became the pivot of the investigation. An alert was sent to Delhi, Noida and surrounding districts to identify the body. 40 teams searched every data from missing person records to crime bureau, but clues were missing.

Police’s ‘Operation Identity’: Investigation progressed with the strategy of 9 teams
According to DCP Yamuna Prasad, the case was becoming very complicated due to lack of identification. After this, 9 special teams were formed, which had different tasks-
- Some teams were continuously scanning thousands of hours of CCTV footage.
- Some were monitoring vehicles at the entry-exit points of Noida.
- A team was engaged in tracking the vehicles coming and going around the incident site.
Meanwhile, the investigation reached Barauli and the police came to know that Preeti, a girl wearing a similar anklet, was missing for a week. This information became the first major breakthrough in the case.
Suspicion started from a love story and reached a bus driver.
Investigation revealed that Preeti had a love affair with a bus driver. As soon as this information was received, the police increased surveillance on the driver and finally he was detained. During the search of the bus, traces of blood were found on the mat laid on the floor. This was the moment when the investigation suddenly took a sharp turn. The accused was strictly interrogated and he ultimately confessed to the crime of murder.
Driver’s confession: Throat slit, head severed, evidence thrown at different places
The accused driver told that he is married and is the father of three children. Despite this he had relations with Preeti. For some time, Preeti was pressurizing him to leave his wife and children and marry her, although he was not ready for it.
On the evening of 5th November, he called Preeti in his bus on some pretext and murdered her there by slitting her throat with a knife. The accused-
- The body was wrapped in a bus mat and thrown into the drain of Sector 39.
- The head was separated and placed in a drain near the new bus stand of Ghaziabad.
- The knife used in the murder and blood stained clothes were also thrown there.
The police recovered all the evidence on his notice.
A small anklet became the biggest evidence, which revealed the whole story.
In this blind case, there was no identification of the body, no witnesses, and no live footage. But a simple silver anklet worn on the woman’s leg became the ‘key’ which unlocked the entire mystery. The swift, technical and strategic investigation of Noida Police proved that no matter how complex a case is, even a small thing can become the biggest path to reach the truth.
