Banarasi saree is now showcasing its art on the international platform. With the help of ODOP and GI tag, the artisans of Kashi have got new markets. 29 handicraftsmen will exhibit their products at the India International Trade Fair 2025.
Varanasi. Banarasi saree, which has become the pride of Kashi, is now spreading its shine at the international level also. In Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency Varanasi, the policies of the double engine government have given a new identity to traditional arts. These policies have not only increased the income of local artisans but also given them an opportunity to showcase their art in the global market.
Strong presence of Kashi products in India International Trade Fair 2025
India International Trade Fair 2025, organized on the theme “One India, Best India”, is being organized from 14 to 27 November 2025 at Pragati Maidan (Bharat Mandapam). This time Uttar Pradesh has got the special status of partner state. The government is giving a golden opportunity to the handicraftsmen and exporters of the state to present their products to the world. 29 handicraftsmen from Kashi have registered in this grand fair, out of which 17 are National Awardees. This number reflects the rich tradition and quality of crafts of Kashi.
New markets opening up with ODOP and GI tag
According to Mohan Kumar Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of District Industry Promotion and Entrepreneurship Development Centre, the inclusion of Banarasi saree as ODOP product by the Yogi government and getting its GI tag has proved to be extremely beneficial for the artisans. With these steps, the weavers of Kashi have got access to new markets in the country and abroad. This initiative of the government is playing an important role in making them self-reliant and giving respect to the traditional art of India on the world stage.
