A huge explosion occurred while taking samples of seized explosives at Naugam Police Station in Jammu and Kashmir, in which 9 people including an Inspector and Magistrate died and 27 were injured. The blast took place in a case involving 360 kg of explosives related to the investigation of the white-collar terrorism module.
New Delhi. The horrific explosion that took place late Friday night at Naugam Police Station in Jammu and Kashmir spread panic in the entire area. The explosion suddenly became so big that within a few seconds part of the police station was turned into debris. A senior police inspector, a magistrate and a total of 9 people died in this accident, while 27 people were injured. Most of the injured include policemen and members of the forensic team. At first glance it appeared to be an accident, but as the investigation progressed, the matter became more serious. The blast took place when officials were taking out samples of explosives recovered in the investigation of a large module linked to ‘white collar terrorism’. Was it just an accidental explosion or part of a deeper conspiracy?
When and how did the explosion occur?
According to sources, the explosives brought from Faridabad, Haryana were being examined. These were the same explosives which were seized from the rented room of arrested Dr. Muzammil Ganai. A total of 360 kg of explosives were found, a part of which was kept in the police station and samples were being taken from it. As soon as the team touched the material, suddenly there was a big explosion. After this, small blasts continued to happen continuously, which made it very difficult to start rescue operations immediately.

What is ‘White-Collar Terrorism’? And why important in this case?
This case is related to those terrorists who appear to be educated, civilized and normal people, but internally operate a radical network. Prominent faces involved in this case, doctors, Imams and educated youth, say that this was a high-level conspiracy. Inspector Asrar, who was leading the investigation of this module, was killed in the explosion. He was one of the chief officers of the state investigation agency.
The layers of the entire conspiracy were revealed through posters
In October, posters threatening security forces were found on walls in Banpora area. Initially it was considered to be the act of some mischievous element, but when the matter went into investigation, the CCTV footage identified three youths-
- Arif Nisar Dar
- Yasir-ul-Ashraf
- Maqsood Ahmed Dar
His arrest gave a big turn to the story.

How was the doctors’ network caught?
The arrested youth told during interrogation that these posters were given by Maulvi Irfan, who was first a paramedic and later became an Imam. It is said that he played an important role in radicalizing the doctors. This clue led the investigation team to Al-Falah University in Faridabad, from where
- Dr. Muzammil Ganai
- Dr. Shaheen Saeed
Was arrested. A large quantity of explosive chemicals like ammonium nitrate, sulphur, potassium nitrate etc. were also seized from there.
Is the real mastermind of the module still at large?
Investigation revealed that the module was being run by a trio of three doctors-
- Muzammil Ganai (arrested)
- Omar Nabi (driver of car blast near Red Fort)
- Muzaffar Rather (now absconding)
Apart from these, the role of Dr. Adeel Rather is also under investigation, from whom AK-56 was recovered.
Was the investigation team targeted?
- Now security agencies are trying to find out
- Was the explosion really an accident?
- Or the explosives were kept in such a condition that
- As soon as someone touches them, there will be an explosion.
