Story of Utpanna Ekadashi
– According to religious texts, ‘Once upon a time there was a demon named Moore. He was very brave and powerful, he also had many blessings. With the power obtained from these boons, he defeated all the gods including Indra and took control of heaven.

– When all the gods together could not defeat the Moor, they all went to Lord Vishnu and told him their problem. Hearing the words of the gods, Lord Vishnu got ready to fight with the demon Moor and challenged him to a fight.
– In this way a war began between Lord Vishnu and the demon Moor which continued for many years, but it yielded no results. Lord Vishnu got tired and went to Badrikashram and took rest in a cave.
– The demon Moor also came there and attacked Lord Vishnu. Then a woman appeared from the body of Lord Vishnu and started fighting with the demon Moore. Within no time the beautiful woman killed the Moor demon.
– Then when Lord Vishnu woke up from rest, he asked about the introduction of that woman. The woman said, ‘I am the Ekadashi date born from your own body.’ Then Lord Vishnu gave many blessings to Ekadashi Tithi and also gave it the status of the most sacred date.
– Lord Vishnu said, ‘All my devotees will please me by keeping fast on Ekadashi date. Those who worship you will also be called my devotees. Your manifest date will be known as Utpanna Ekadashi.
– In this way, Ekadashi Tithi became most sacred after receiving the boon from Lord Vishnu. A person observing fast on Utpanna Ekadashi must listen to this story, only then he gets the full benefits of this fast and after death he gets supreme peace.
