‘Dream has come true’: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi gets emotional after receiving India Jersey

New Delhi: Indian cricketer Vaibhav Sooryavanshi received the Indian jersey ahead of the T20 series against England and Ireland. This left the youngster overwhelmed with emotion, as he said his childhood dream had come true and that the feeling was unreal.

Sooryavanshi got his maiden call-up for India in the upcoming T20 series against England and Ireland. The 15-year-old had a perfect season in IPL 2026 and was rewarded with the Orange Cap for scoring the highest number of runs in the edition. On Sunday, he starred with the bat in the final of the tri-series against Sri Lanka, scoring 94 runs off 29 balls.

Sooryavanshi shared his emotions in a video posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He said the feeling was unreal and that the dream which inspired him to pick up a bat and practise every day had finally been fulfilled. A major step in his journey had now been completed, and the emotions were beyond words. He further said he could not stop smiling after seeing the jersey. Sometimes, things happen that you never imagined could happen.

“Words cannot explain it. The reason I picked up the bat from day one and went to the ground for practice that dream is fulfilled now. The biggest step in that journey was completed today. I truly cannot put this feeling into words,” the 15-year-old said after receiving the jersey.

“I felt like I was dreaming when I saw that T-shirt; I couldn’t stop smiling. Sometimes things happen that you never imagined could happen. When it finally does, you don’t know how to react. That was exactly how I felt,” he further said.

Sooryavanshi has become the youngest player selected in the senior men’s team, surpassing the 36-year-old record set by Sachin Tendulkar. If he gets a place in the playing XI, he will become the youngest player to debut for Team India in men’s international cricket.
