Shubman Gill Beats Ben Stokes, Wiaan Mulder; Becomes ICC Player of the Month

India’s Test captain Shubman Gill has been named ICC Men’s Player of the Month for July, following a phenomenal batting display in the Test series against England.

Taking charge in the longest format for the first time, Gill delivered one of the most memorable overseas performances by an Indian batsman in recent years.

Facing England in challenging conditions, the 25-year-old silenced critics who questioned his overseas Test record, especially in SENA countries, where his average had hovered around 15. Gill not only adapted but dominated, finishing the series as the highest run-scorer with 754 runs in five matches.

July was particularly remarkable – Gill scored 567 runs at a staggering average of 94.50, including a majestic double century in Birmingham and two more centuries that showcased his composure and class. His ability to handle England’s pace attack and counter spin with equal authority drew praise from former players and fans alike.

“This award is special as it came during my first Test series as captain,” Gill reflected. “The double ton in Birmingham is something I’ll cherish forever. It was a learning experience as a leader, and the series had some outstanding performances from both sides.”

With this achievement, Gill has not only proven his leadership credentials but also established himself as India’s batting mainstay in overseas Tests, setting the tone for what could be a defining era in his career.
