Denver Nuggets coach David Adelman praised Nikola Jokic’s outstanding performance after he matched the highest-scoring game of the NBA season against the Los Angeles Clippers.
Jokic scored 55 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in Denver’s 130-116 win, marking their sixth consecutive victory. His score equaled Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s 55-point game against the Indiana Pacers on October 23.
Jokic was instrumental from the start, contributing 25 of the Nuggets’ 39 first-quarter points. He added another 19 points in the third quarter and shot an impressive 18-of-23 from the field. Although he narrowly missed his seventh triple-double of the season with six assists, Jokic excelled in other areas, going 5-of-6 on three-pointers and making 14-of-16 free throws.
Adelman highlighted Jokic’s dedication to preparation, stating, “The way he played is how he [Jokic] works out when no one is watching. He prepares every day for situations like this.” Adelman emphasized that Jokic’s performance was unforgettable and praised him as one of the best players alive. He noted Jokic’s ability to manage the game clock effectively.
On Tuesday, Jokic also delivered a strong performance against the Sacramento Kings, scoring 35 points in a 122-108 victory. Despite his impressive start against the Clippers, Jokic mentioned that he didn’t feel he began well but eventually found his rhythm. “It’s a good feeling,” Jokic said. “I didn’t open the game really good.”
Jokic acknowledged missing some early layups but felt confident as the game progressed. He explained that they ran various plays for him, which allowed him to see everything clearly despite initial challenges. His ability to adapt and execute different plays showcases his versatility and importance to the team’s strategy.
The Serbian player’s exceptional skills were evident throughout these games, reinforcing his status as a key player for Denver. His performances not only contribute to individual accolades but also significantly impact team success. As one of their best ball handlers, Jokic remains crucial in ensuring victories for the Nuggets.
