Ederson Reveals Unhappiness At Manchester City Leading To Fenerbahce Transfer

Ederson, the Brazilian goalkeeper, expressed dissatisfaction with his situation at Manchester City, prompting a move to Fenerbahce on the transfer deadline day.

After eight years at City, he transferred to the Turkish Super Lig team for a reported fee of 12.1 million. During his tenure at City, Ederson played 372 matches across all competitions and secured 18 major trophies.

His accolades include six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, and the Club World Cup. Notably, he won the Premier League Golden Glove three times consecutively from 2019 to 2022 and holds the record for most assists by a goalkeeper in Premier League history with seven. Despite these achievements, Ederson had been linked with a move away from Manchester in his last two seasons.

In a press conference while on duty with Brazil, Ederson revealed that he had attempted to leave City before securing his transfer this year. “In the season before that, I had already tried to leave, but it didn’t work out,” he said. He admitted that this situation affected his performance as he suffered five injuries and was not at his best.

Since joining Fenerbahce, Ederson has made ten appearances across all competitions and kept five clean sheets. The team currently sits second in the Turkish league standings, trailing Galatasaray by just one point. Ederson is embracing this new chapter in his career and is excited about the challenges ahead.

He shared his thoughts on the transition: “It would have continued to affect me in the same way,” he added. “It’s good to have new challenges in your life, in your career.” The change has reignited his passion for football as he enjoys the vibrant atmosphere of games in Turkey.

The Decision to Move On

Reflecting on his decision to leave Manchester City, Ederson explained that it was something he had discussed with his family and communicated to the club if they agreed. He emphasised that being at a successful club is pointless if one is not happy. This sentiment drove him to seek new opportunities where he could find joy again.

Ederson’s journey continues as he seeks success with Fenerbahce while enjoying football once more. His move highlights how personal happiness can influence professional decisions even when one is part of a winning team.
