Exercise Mitra Shakti–XI: Strengthening Indo–Sri Lankan military partnership through realistic field training

New Delhi: Continuing the momentum of Exercise Mitra Shakti–XI, the joint military engagement between India and Sri Lanka witnessed an action-packed day on 13 November 2025, featuring high-intensity demonstrations and advanced tactical drills aimed at deepening operational synergy between the two armies.

The day began with an impressive Integrated Fieldcraft demonstration, where soldiers showcased counter-drone tactics, urban movement through built-up areas, obstacle crossing, and break contact drills — reflecting the evolving nature of modern warfare.

A major highlight was the Cordon and Search Operations (CASO) segment, conducted through live demonstrations. The exercise underscored the role of new-generation technologies, including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for village reconnaissance, drone-assisted house searches, and the incorporation of civic action measures to ensure minimal disruption to local populations during military operations.

In the afternoon, Indian and Sri Lankan contingents were reorganised into mixed training groups, promoting seamless coordination and mutual learning. One group engaged in simulator-based firing using advanced weapon systems such as the SIG Sauer 716, AK-203, Negev LMG, and rocket launchers, while the other participated in live firing exercises, sharpening marksmanship and tactical responses.

The day culminated in an after-action review, where soldiers from both sides shared insights and best practices, further enhancing interoperability and tactical understanding.

Exercise Mitra Shakti–XI continues to serve as a symbol of the growing defence cooperation and strategic partnership between India and Sri Lanka, reaffirming the shared commitment to regional peace, stability, and security.
