Yogi Adityanath: The effect of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s strict instructions and constant monitoring is now visible on the ground. A major reduction in the incidents of stubble burning has been recorded in Uttar Pradesh. Due to the efforts of the state government, farmers have now started adopting alternative measures for crop residue management.

Stubble burning incidents occurred in 20 districts

There has been a significant reduction in the incidents of stubble burning in 20 districts like Mathura, Pilibhit, Saharanpur, Barabanki, Lakhimpur Kheri, Kaushambi, Etah, Hardoi, Jalaun, Fatehpur, Maharajganj, Kanpur Dehat, Jhansi, Mainpuri, Bahraich, Etawah, Gorakhpur, Aligarh, Unnao and Sitapur. Among these, the least number of incidents have occurred in districts like Etah, Kaushambi, Sitapur and Unnao, which clearly shows that the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi are having an effective effect.

Strict surveillance is being maintained through satellite

Chief Minister Yogi had directed all the district magistrates and departments to monitor every incident of stubble burning through satellite. Besides, farmers are being made aware of techniques like crop residue management, composting and bio-decomposer. Farmers are also being provided machines and technical assistance so that they adopt environment friendly alternatives instead of burning stubble.

System of fines and responsibility

The state government has made a strict system of fines against those who burn stubble.

  • ₹2,500 on land less than two acres
  • ₹5,000 on two to five acres
  • A fine of up to ₹15,000 will be imposed on farms larger than five acres.

Apart from this, a nodal officer is being appointed for every 50 to 100 farmers, who will keep an eye on the incidents of stubble burning in their area and ensure prevention.

Government’s objective: To make farmers aware of the environment

The aim of the state government is not just to punish but to make the farmers aware about environmental protection. Due to monitoring and awareness campaigns of administrative officials, farmers are now moving towards preparing manure and biofertilizer from stubble.
