Like Nag Panchami, there is a tradition of worshiping Nagdevta on Nag Diwali also. It is believed that snakes are residents of the underworld and on Diwali they come to earth and bless humans. Therefore, worshiping snakes on this day brings happiness, prosperity and peace in the house. Along with this, the fear of snake bite also goes away. Where do snakes celebrate Diwali?
Nag Diwali is a local festival, celebrated only in some parts of the country. This festival is mainly celebrated in Chamoli of Uttarakhand. On this day people light lamps outside their houses and make rangoli. Nagdevata is especially worshiped there on this day. On the occasion of Nag Diwali, special dishes are also prepared which are offered to the serpent god. People also seek blessings of happiness and prosperity from the snake god on this day. Apart from this, the festival of Nag Diwali is also celebrated in Chhindwara region of Madhya Pradesh as per local tradition.
