Punjab Police issues strict guidelines after VIP convoy vehicle hits Lt Gen DS Hooda’s car

Chandigarh: Punjab Police have taken swift and stern action after a Punjab Police vehicle, part of a VIP convoy, collided with the car of retired Lieutenant General DS Hooda on the Zirakpur–Ambala stretch. Treating the matter seriously, DGP Yadav has ordered an immediate inquiry led by Special DGP Traffic Police, AS Rai, and introduced new operational guidelines to prevent such incidents in the future.

In a statement shared on his official social media handle, DGP Yadav reiterated that the Punjab Police, as a professional force, follows a zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct. He emphasised that police duty extends beyond protecting VIPs to ensuring public safety, dignity, and confidence on the roads.

DGP Yadav described VIP protection as a “high-responsibility assignment” that demands discipline, patience, and respect for citizens. He stressed that strong security measures must go hand in hand with courteous behaviour.

New guidelines for VIP convoys: Ensuring road safety & courtesy

1. Adherence to traffic rules and regulations during non-emergency movements. Compliance with road safety norms should be ensured.

2. Facilitation of smooth movement, while ensuring minimal disturbance to public traffic.

3. Professional conduct with courtesy to be maintained throughout the road journey with the protectee.

4. Utmost patience and restraint shall be exercised under all circumstances.

5. ⁠Any incidents are to be reported to the concerned quarters immediately by the Escort in charge.

6. Mandatory briefing by all Districts to escort, pilot, and traffic staff within 48 hours, on professional and courteous conduct on the road.
