Mumbai: Delhi Crime, one of Netflix’s thrilling series, created a buzz online. Recently, Tanuj Chopra, the director of the show, revealed the details of the case he was inspired by.
Speaking to Firstpost, Chopra stated, “Here we got the case, the baby Falak case, where a fourteen-year-old girl in Delhi brings a baby to the hospital with bruises all over her. Over the course of the treatment, cops realise that the young girl is not the mother.”
The 2012 case
A two-year-old girl was brought to AIIMS by a woman, who claimed to be her mother. She was found with multiple injuries, including broken arms, a fractured skull, human bite marks on her body, and burn marks from a hot iron on her cheeks. The staff named the baby Falak. Though they tried their best to save the infant, they failed. The baby passed on March 15 following a heart attack. Soon after, it was found that the infant’s biological mother was a victim of human trafficking. Meanwhile, the woman pretending to be the baby’s mother was just a 14-year-old girl.
The abuse and death of the infant grabbed the attention of people on a national level. It outraged citizens.
As the case was further looked into, it showcased the pattern of young women disappearing under the pretext of job and marriage promises.
