Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) officials have not received confirmation from Rohit Sharma about taking part in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy.
According to the latest reports, the former India captain has yet to confirm his availability for the 2025-26 edition of the country’s leading one-day tournament.
The Vijay Hazare Trophy is set to take place from December 25 to January 18 in Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Jaipur, and Bengaluru. All knockout fixtures will be played at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Six rounds of one-day games will be held between the home series against South Africa and New Zealand.
Mumbai Official Refutes Reports of Rohit Sharma Making Himself Available for Vijay Hazare Trophy
It was reported that Rohit Sharma informed the Mumbai Cricket Association that he would play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. However, MCA officials said this is not true. They confirmed that they have not received any message from him about playing.
The BCCI had earlier told Rohit and Virat Kohli, who retired from Tests and T20Is, that they should play domestic matches if they want to continue in ODIs. Notably, the team management and selectors made it clear that all centrally contracted players should play domestic cricket when available.
“There has been no communication as far as I am aware,” the official said.
Rohit Sharma Last Seen in Three-Match ODI Series Against Australia
Rohit Sharma was last seen in action during the recent three-match ODI series between India and Australia. Notably, it was his first international outing since the Champions Trophy and his first competitive cricket since the IPL.
After a slow start, the right-handed batter scored 73 in the second ODI and then smashed a brilliant unbeaten 121 in the final ODI in Sydney. He secured the Player of the Series award with 202 runs at an average of 101.
Rohit has been training in Mumbai to prepare for the upcoming ODI series against South Africa, which will begin on November 30 in Ranchi. The remaining matches will be played in Raipur and Visakhapatnam on December 3 and 6. Yashasvi Jaiswal also joined him before moving to the Test squad.
Rohit Sharma Likely to Be Retained by Mumbai Indians Ahead of IPL 2026
Mumbai Indians (MI) are expected to retain Rohit Sharma for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah are also likely to be retained by the franchise. The league’s full retention list will be announced on November 15.
During IPL 2025, Rohit scored 418 runs at an average of 29.86 and a strike rate of nearly 150. Mumbai bounced back from their poor 2024 season and reached the playoffs. However, the team has not lifted the trophy since their fifth title in 2020.
Rohit joined the Mumbai-based franchise in 2011. He guided the team to five titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. However, Hardik Pandya replaced him as captain of the franchise ahead of IPL 2024.
