Bihar Election 2025 saw a record turnout of 67.13% and not a single re-poll. Women voting was 71.78%. The Election Commission called it a historic success of “Bihar First” reforms.
New Delhi. Bihar has once again presented the brightest example of democracy. The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday confirmed that the Bihar Assembly elections 2025 have recorded a record voter turnout of 67.13% – the highest ever in the electoral history of the state since independence. An even bigger achievement was that this time there was not even a single re-poll. This achievement is being considered as the success of the “Bihar First” initiative of the Election Commission. Starting from March 2025, 17 major electoral reforms were carried out under this mission, which included 100% webcasting, booth level monitoring, and intensive review of voter lists.
Women voters also created history this time
71.78% women voted, while the percentage of men was 62.98%. According to the Commission, increasing participation of women voters can bring a new balance in the politics of Bihar. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, monitored 90,740 polling stations through webcasting and ECI-Net platform. Voting took place in a peaceful and transparent manner at every centre.
Election Commission said, this time a special record was made
The Election Commission also informed that in the previous assembly elections (2015 and 2020), re-polling was held two and three times, but this time no irregularities, violence or irregularities were found. The voter list of Bihar was completely updated under the special revision named “SIR 2025 with Zero Appeals”. In this, data of 7.45 crore registered voters was verified. Apart from this, the Commission also made improvements in EVM and VVPAT systems, and for the first time launched a voter-centric app allowing voters to get information about their centre, slip and voting status in real time. All this together makes Bihar India’s first “Zero Repoll” state, where transparency, technology and citizen participation have come together to set a new example of democracy.
