Investment of more than Rs 9 thousand crore is coming to promote fish farming in Madhya Pradesh. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has given instructions to make the state self-reliant in fish production, develop hatcheries in every district and encourage pearl production.
Preparations have started to take fish farming to new heights in Madhya Pradesh. The state government now wants to develop this sector not only as a source of employment but also as a big industry that strengthens the rural economy. In this direction, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav gave many important instructions in the review meeting of Fishermen Welfare and Fisheries Development Department and set the target of making the state self-reliant in fish production.
The Chief Minister said that the positive results of the Integrated Fisheries Policy 2026 have started emerging. Under this policy, investment of more than Rs 9 thousand crore is coming in the fisheries sector in the state. Work orders have also been issued for 2 lakh 91 thousand 938 cage proposals received by the government, which is expected to significantly increase the production capacity in the coming years.
Preparation to eliminate dependence on other states for fish seeds
In the review meeting, Chief Minister Dr. Yadav clearly said that in the next two and a half years, Madhya Pradesh should not depend on other states for fish seeds. For this, a target has been set to develop one hatchery in every district.
He instructed the officials to make quality fish seeds easily available in the districts. This will promote fisheries at the local level and production will also increase. The Chief Minister said that this step towards self-reliance will prove beneficial for thousands of fishermen and fish farmers of the state.
Focus will also be on pearl production and export
The Chief Minister also laid emphasis on promoting pearl production in the state. He instructed to study the successful schemes and techniques of other states and implement them in Madhya Pradesh. Along with this, in view of the increasing fish production, emphasis was also laid on expansion of basic facilities like cold chain, storage and transportation.
It was also informed in the meeting that Madhya Pradesh ranks second in the country in the inland water sector under the Fishermen Kisan Credit Card Scheme. At the national level, Seoni district has got the first position in the field of inland fisheries for the year 2023-24.
The Chief Minister also stressed the need for better coordination between various departments for revitalization of rivers, conservation of aquatic animals and promotion of water-based tourism activities. He said that through investment in fisheries sector, modern technology and strong infrastructure, Madhya Pradesh can further strengthen its identity among the leading states of the country.
