PM Modi, JP Nadda Likely To Pick NDA’s VP Candidate Today

The NDA leaders held a high-level meeting in New Delhi on Thursday, where a resolution to authorise PM Modi and Nadda was passed. The meeting was chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

Kiren Rijiju, Parliamentary Affairs Minister, told media reporters after the meeting, said that the final candidate chosen by PM Modi and Nadda would have the consensus and support of all NDA partners.

Shiv Sena’s Shrikant Shinde, Lok Janshakti Party’s Chirag Paswan, the TDP’s Lavu Krishna Devarayalu, and the Republican Party of India’s Ramdas Athawale also attended the meeting.

Eknath Shinde, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader had already announced unconditional support for the BJP’s pick.

EC Notifies Vice Presidential Poll

Earlier on Thursday, the Election Commission of India, issued a notification for the September 9 vice presidential poll, kickstarting the exercise to elect Jagdeep Dhankhar’s successor.

Vice Presidential Poll Schedule

Rajya Sabha Secretary General PC Mody, the returning officer for the election, received three nomination papers, which were rejected for not being in order.

– August 21: The last date for filing nominations

– August 22: The scrutiny of documents

– August 25: The last date for the withdrawal of nominations

The Vice Presidential poll was necessitated following the surprise resignation of Dhankhar on July 21, citing health reasons. His term was to end in August 2027.
