Vaibhav Suryavanshi continued to show why he is a talent beyond the ordinary during the ongoing series between the Indian U-19 and the England U-19 team.
In the third Youth ODI of the series at the County Ground in Northampton on Wednesday (July 2), Suryavanshi shattered a series of records as he continued his golden run of form.
After the Indian team were set a huge target of 287, Suryavanshi gave the Men in Blue a rapid start while opening the batting. The 14-year-old walked out to open the batting with stand-in skipper Abhigyan Kundu, who is leading the team in the absence of Ayush Mhatre.
Suryavanshi scored a knock of 86 in just 31 balls, which included six boundaries and nine sixes at a strike-rate of 277.41.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi Creates History
Suryavanshi’s knock is the quickest 80+ score in youth ODI history, with the Indian star becoming the first player in the world to make more than 80 or more runs in an innings at a strike-rate of above 250. Previously, Indian cricket cult hero Suresh Raina held the record for the fastest knock of 80 in a U-19 ODI game.

Apart from Suryavanshi, Jacob Betthell (vs South Africa U-19 in 2002 – 88 of 42 at 209.53) is the only other instance of a player scoring more than 80 runs at a scoring rate above 200 in a Youth ODI innings against a full member nation.
Suryavanshi’s knock is also the fourth-quickest 50+ score and the second by an Indian behind Rishabh Pant, who made a knock of 78 in 24 (SR 325) in the 2016 U-19 World Cup against Nepal. Pant’s effort is the only instance of a half-century being scored in Youth ODIs at a scoring rate above 300.
During that match, Pant had reached his half-century in 18 balls, which is the quickest by an Indian in a Youth ODI with Suryavanshi’s 20-ball half-century today, the second on the list.
Suryavanshi hit nine sixes in his knock, which is the most by an Indian U-19 player, breaking a record previously held by Mandeep Singh with eight maximums against Australia in 2009 at Hobart. Suryavanshi is also the first player to hit nine sixes in a Youth ODI in England.
Last year, Suryavanshi became the first player to score a half-century in Youth ODIs before turning 14 and now he holds the record for being the youngest to hit multiple half-centuries in U-19 cricket in the ODI format.
The 14-year-old has been in fine form in the series with knocks of 48 (19) and 45 (39) in the first two games.
