Actor Sara Arfeen Khan opened up about a frightening incident in Dubai that left her and her family shaken. In an exclusive chat with mid-day, the actress described how a sudden fire alarm in her residential building turned into a near-death experience, forcing them to rush out with their kids and elderly parents in panic.
Sara recounted, “I was on a phone call when the alarm went off — very loudly. Then another alarm followed, and everyone came out wondering what was happening. Initially, we thought it was a false alarm, but soon the security entered our house, shouting, ‘Let’s go outside!’”
Sara talks about the harrowing incident
The actress said there was no time to think or prepare. “However, we were — I was in my pyjamas — we just ran down. My kids were also in pyjamas, nervous and scared. We couldn’t use the lift, so we took the stairs. The staircases are very small and spiralled, and my father-in-law and mother-in-law, being elderly, were slowly coming down holding hands,” she recalled.
Describing the chaos, Sara added, “People were rushing and panicking because the opposite building had caught fire last year when I was in Bigg Boss. Luckily, Dubai’s safety mechanism is excellent — they have clear emergency rules and procedures.”
Once outside, residents were directed to an assembly point. “We crossed the road and sat at a café. The ambulance, firefighters — everyone came, just in case. We waited for about an hour and a half before being told everything was fine,” she said.
Sara shared that returning home took time as the lifts were jammed with residents, pets, and children. “It was a panic attack down there. But with God’s grace, everyone is fine and everything is good now,” she concluded with relief.
