Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has started the application process for a total of 12,256 posts of Group B and Group C. The last date for SSC CGL 2026 application has been set as 22 June 2026 at 11 pm. Like every year, this time too lakhs of candidates are applying, but the changes in the examination pattern have made the competition more challenging than before.
Return of AAO: High salary and prestigious posts again in discussion
After many years SSC has re-introduced the posts of Assistant Audit Officer (AAO) and Assistant Accounts Officer. These posts come under Pay Level-8, whose pay scale is considered better than many other SSC CGL posts. For these posts, candidates will have to appear additional Paper-III (Finance & Economics) in Tier-2. In such a situation, this is being considered a golden opportunity for the candidates from commerce, finance and accounts background.
Sectional Timing: Now the exam will not be passed only on the basis of strong subjects.
The biggest change in SSC CGL 2026 is Sectional Timing. In Tier-1, now there will be separate time of 15 minutes for each section. Once the time expires, the system will automatically move to the next section. This simply means that candidates will no longer be able to compensate for other weak sections by spending extra time in Quant or English. According to experts, this change will give an edge to those candidates who have done balanced preparation on all subjects.
New path opened for AI and Data Science students also
SSC has also made a major expansion in the eligibility for the post of Statistical Investigator Grade-II. Now candidates from modern subjects like Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Information Technology and Computer Science will also be eligible for this post. In view of the increasing demand for digital and data based jobs, this step of SSC is being considered as the beginning of a new era in government recruitment.
No interview, selection will be done in two stages
The selection process in SSC CGL 2026 will be based on Tier-1, Tier-2 and document verification as before. The special thing is that there will be no interview. Tier-1 will be qualifying only, while the final merit will be prepared on the basis of Tier-2 marks.
