Wimbledon 2025: Kamilla Rakhimova upsets Jasmine Paolini; Raducanu, Fritz progress

New Delhi: The 2024 finalist Jasmine Paolini was knocked out of Wimbledon 2025 after losing against the World No.62 Kamilla Rakhimova. The fourth-seeded Paolini looked in control and dominated the first set, but Rakhimova made a sensational comeback to emerge victorious 6-4, 4-6, 4-6 in two hours and 19 minutes.

Paolini was trailing in the match but showed great composure to save three match points, but failed to save the fourth as Rakhimova progressed to her first-ever Round 3 in the grass court major. After Paolini’s early exit from the tournament, the world no.1 Sabalenka is the only player remaining amongst the top five seeds in the women’s draw.

Fritz advances to Wimbledon third round

Taylor Fritz defeated Canadian Gabriel Diallo 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(0), 4-6, 6-3 in three hours and six minutes. This was his third consecutive day of competing at the grass-court major. Fritz last week won his fourth Eastbourne trophy and has played back-to-back five-setters consisting of 109 total games.

He put in a brilliant effort against Diallo after losing the opening set and made a comeback in the match by winning the next two sets, but the play was suspended for 10 minutes, and the American was frustrated with the delay. After a quick chat with his coaches during the break, Diallo showed aggression and won the fourth set, but Fritz remained calm and broke Diallo’s serve to grab a 4-2 lead and never looked back after that.

Emma Raducanu beat Marketa Vondrousova

The 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu showed a dominating performance to eliminate Marketa Vondrousova in women’s singles of the tournament. Raducanu took an hour and 22 minutes to beat the 2023 Wimbledon champion 6-3, 6-3.

She will face World No.1 Sabalenka in the third round clash, who defeated Marie Bouzkova in straight sets in the second round. Raducanu has lost her only match against Sabalenka at Indian Wells last year and will look to give a tough fight to her.
