Wine in premium bottles real or fake, how to find out?

Whatever bottle of liquor you are buying, it can be detected in many ways whether it is genuine or fake.

Visuals and packaging

  • Label/Print Quality: The identity of genuine liquor is that it has tax stamp, barcode/QR, clear print, correct color and no mistakes in words. If the print is blurry, there are mistakes in the spelling of the brand and the sticker is blurry then the chances of it being fake are high.
  • Cap/Seal: Factory sealed cap fits perfectly into official company bottle. If there is looseness in it or there is a difference in its texture then it may be fake.
  • Glass and bottom mark of bottle: Branded liquor bottles often have a brand mark on the bottle. Mold number or permanent print. At the same time, there is a difference in the texture and size of glass in cheaper bottles.
  • Lot/Batch Number and Expiry: The lot/batch number and expiry are clearly mentioned on the bottles. If there is a QR code, scan it and match it with the brand’s website.
Fake Alcohol

There are many ways to identify fake liquor.

Check color and transparency

  • Color-Transparency: Be alert if you see any kind of foam, particles or dirt in the liquor. Any change in its color can be an indication of fake liquor.
  • Bubbles: Experts say that shake the bottle and if the air bubbles are falling very slowly towards the bottom then it is a sign of fake liquor.
How To Identify Fake Alcohol

Real or fake liquor can also be identified with the help of the barcode number printed on the bottle.

Do not buy liquor without stickers

With the help of the website of Excise Department of Delhi Government, real and fake liquor can also be identified. All liquor bottles sold in Delhi have a QR/serial number sticker on their caps. This sticker firmly protects the seal between the cap and body of the bottle. Therefore, the serial number on this sticker is important to verify the genuineness and source of the liquor. Do not buy any liquor bottle from Delhi which does not have this sticker on it.

Check from Excise Department website

Visit the website of Excise Department of Delhi Government https://delhiexcise.gov.in/Portal/liquorsalecheck and enter the complete serial number appearing on the sticker. It should be less than 28 digits. Also, do not write any special characters or brackets printed on the sticker. After entering the serial number correctly, click on submit. The status will be known on the website. If it is real then many information will be available from here. Like brand name, price, quantity and its price. This does not happen in the case of spurious liquor.

Can you check through the app also?

There is also an app to check this. Android users can find out whether the liquor is fake or real with an app named mLiquorSaleCheck. For this you will not need to type the serial number and can simply check using the barcode scanner of the app. Apart from this, the option of serial number is also given in it. This can also be investigated.
