New Delhi: English footballer Jack Grealish will join Everton on a season-long loan after an agreement was reached between the Merseyside club and Manchester City. Grealish’s future at City has been one of the talking points of the summer transfer window after the former Aston Villa player fell out of favour at City. His exit from the Etihad Stadium seemed imminent after he was left out of the squad for the final Premier League game of last season at Fulham, as well as the Club World Cup in the United States.
According to a report in the BBC, Everton and City have struck a deal for a season-long loan for Grealish, who reportedly earns £ 300,000 a week. A medical at Everton is reportedly imminent.
The England star joined City from Villa for a then British record fee of £100m in August 2021. He made 150 appearances during his trophy-laden spell, winning three Premier League titles, the Champions League and the FA Cup.
However, he made only seven league starts last season as City went trophyless for the first time in five years.
Signs of his imminent departure became evident after Pep Guardiola benched him during the FA Cup final defeat by Crystal Palace in favour of Argentine teenager Claudio Echeverri, who was given a debut instead.
Earlier, it was reported that Grealish wanted a permanent move, but he is now set for a loan move. Since playing a key role in Manchester City’s historic Treble in 2022-23, Grealish’s career has spiralled downhill due to injuries and inconsistent form.
Can Grealish revive his career?
From Grealish’s point of view, a move to a Champions League-playing club would have been ideal, but getting an opportunity to play week in week out should be his top priority to win back his place in the England squad.
Last summer, Grealish admitted that he was “heartbroken” by being left out of the Three Lions squad for the 2024 European Championship.
Therefore, a move to Everton presents Grealish a golden opportunity to rejuvenate his career and take centre stage at the Hill Dickinson Stadium – Toffees’ new home.
