Seemanchal region of Bihar is electorally important due to 24 seats and 35-67% Muslim population. This time AIMIM and Jansuraj have made the contest triangular. NDA may benefit from the division of Muslim votes, which will decide the equation of power.
Voting for the second phase of Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 is scheduled to take place on November 11. The area which is getting maximum attention in this phase is Seemanchal. Kishanganj, Araria, Purnia and Katihar, together these four districts are called Seemanchal. This area is considered very important not only geographically but also politically. The demography here changes the entire election equation, because the Muslim population here ranges between 35 to 67 percent. This is the reason why the party which gets the support of this population, its chances of victory increase significantly.
AIMIM had made a dent in 2020
Seemanchal had shaken the politics of Bihar in the 2020 assembly elections. All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) had broken into the traditional vote bank of the Grand Alliance by winning five seats here. AIMIM’s victory in Amour, Bahadurganj, Bayasi, Jokihat and Kochadhaman—these seats had made it clear that the Muslim vote could no longer permanently shift with any one party but depending on circumstances and local issues. Although later four out of five AIMIM MLAs joined RJD, it was indicated that voters in Seemanchal are now voting thoughtfully and on the basis of conditions.
combat triangle
This time the contest in the 2025 elections has become more interesting. This is no longer just a fight between the Grand Alliance and the NDA. Jansuraj of AIMIM and Prashant Kishore have made the contest triangular. PK’s Jansuraj Yatra has made a good impact among the youth and new voters in Purnia and Araria. On the other hand, AIMIM is again trying to regain the land. The Grand Alliance wants to reinforce the Muslim-Yadav equation here, while the NDA has tried to break the social equation and field new faces in many seats.
NDA benefits if votes are divided
What the voters are thinking in Seemanchal is the decisive question of this election. If the Muslim vote remains united, the position of the Grand Alliance will be strengthened. But if the vote is divided, the benefit will go directly to the NDA. At the same time, the increasing activism of AIMIM and Jansuraj can change the elections on many seats at the last moment. This area is the center point of power of entire Bihar. The result of 24 seats here will decide whose government will be formed in Patna. This time, not only votes will be cast in Seemanchal, the future of power will be written here.
