Bengaluru Airport Issues Advisory On Heavy Rush and Extended Security Checks During Independence Day Weekend

Bengaluru Airport: Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) has alerted passengers about possible delays in security clearance during the upcoming Independence Day weekend. Authorities expect a sharp rise in passenger numbers as August 15, which falls on a Friday this year, will create a three-day holiday period.

The advisory, issued on August 11, said that heightened security measures will be in effect throughout the month. These checks could slow down passenger movement, especially during peak hours. Travellers have been asked to factor in extra time for check-in and security before their flights.

In its statement, BLR Airport urged flyers to stay updated on flight timings through their airlines. “Due to increased security in August, passenger processing could take longer. Please allow sufficient time for security check,” the notice read.

Kempegowda International Airport, among India’s busiest, recorded over 37 million passengers in 2024–25. Peak travel periods often lead to congestion at check-in counters, baggage drop areas and security lanes.

In separate news, Uber has introduced exclusive premium pickup zones for its Uber Black and Uber Comfort services at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. Announced on Monday, the initiative offers passengers easy access to premium rides with added facilities and on-ground support. This is the company’s first Uber Black pickup zone at any airport in India, aimed at enhancing its premium mobility services. Arnab Kumar, Director of Business Development for Uber India and South Asia, said the move will improve the travel experience at one of the country’s busiest airports, starting right from the terminal exit.
