International Yoga Day Dehradun: More than 1000 people practiced yoga on Yoga Day in Dehradun’s City Forest Park. Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan also participated in the program.

On International Yoga Day, Dehradun’s City Forest Park emerged as a unique confluence of health, nature and public participation. More than a thousand people participated in the yoga program organized amidst greenery, fresh air and peaceful environment and pledged to make yoga a part of their daily routine.

Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan attended the program organized by Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) as the chief guest. Along with him, MDDA Vice President Banshidhar Tiwari, Secretary Mohan Singh Barnia, officials of various departments, representatives of social organizations and a large number of local citizens were present.

The message of yoga resonates in the lap of nature.

The participants practiced various Yogasanas, Pranayama and meditation under the guidance of Yoga instructors in the serene environment of the morning. The program witnessed remarkable participation of children, youth, women and elderly. During this, people were also given information about the physical and mental benefits of yoga.

Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan said that Yoga is an invaluable heritage of India’s ancient tradition, which has today shown the entire world the path to a healthy life. He said that in the times of increasing stress and busy lifestyle, Yoga is the most effective medium to provide mental peace and positive energy.

Emphasis on making Uttarakhand a yoga and wellness hub

MDDA Vice President Banshidhar Tiwari said that Uttarakhand has been the land of yoga, penance and spiritual practice for centuries. The state government is continuously working towards developing Uttarakhand as a global hub of Yoga, Ayurveda, Wellness and Naturopathy.

He said that efforts are being made to link public places like City Forest Park with health and public welfare, so that people can adopt a healthy lifestyle amidst nature.

After the Yoga Day program, Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan also inspected the City Forest Park. Taking stock of the various facilities available in the park, he directed the officials to develop a QR code based online feedback system so that citizens can directly register their opinions and suggestions.

Praising the cleanliness, green area and modern facilities of the park, the Chief Secretary said that this place has emerged as an excellent medium to connect with nature amidst urban life.

This Yoga Day event was not just a formal event, but also emerged as an effective message of public awareness and collective participation towards building a healthy Uttarakhand and a healthy India.
