International Yoga Day: On International Yoga Day, mass yoga practice took place at major tourist places of Madhya Pradesh. The message of health echoed from Khajuraho, Sanchi and Bhopal.

On the occasion of International Yoga Day, major tourist places of Madhya Pradesh looked yoga-like on Sunday. From Bhopal to Khajuraho, Sanchi, Gwalior and Indore, thousands of people took a pledge to adopt a healthy and balanced lifestyle by practicing yoga collectively. The theme of Yoga Day this year was “Yoga for Healthy Aging”, which aims to promote healthy and active living even in old age.

A state level yoga program was organized by Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board at Kushabhau Thackeray International Convention Center in Bhopal. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s virtual address from Kolkata was also telecast in the programme. In his message, the Prime Minister said that Yoga is not just a physical exercise, but an effective medium for world peace, mental balance and human unity.

Tourism Board officials practiced yoga

In the program, Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board Managing Director and Tourism Secretary Dr. Ilaiyaraaja T., Additional Managing Director Dr. Abhay Bedekar and officials and employees practiced yoga. The yoga session was conducted under the guidance of experts from Sant Hirdaram Medical College and Ayurvedic Institute.

Dr. Ilaiyaraaja T. said that Yoga is an important part of India’s cultural and spiritual heritage. It not only keeps the body healthy but also develops discipline, confidence and positive thinking. At the same time, Dr. Abhay Bedekar appealed to the people to make yoga a part of daily life.

The message of Yoga reached Khajuraho, Sanchi and Gwalior Fort

Mass yoga programs were also organized at many major tourist places in the state. Yoga sessions were organized with the help of local administration and tourism department at tourist centers like Khajuraho, Sanchi, Udayagiri, Gwalior Fort, 56 Shops of Indore and Tamia.

The special thing was that the elders of Seva Samiti old age home also participated enthusiastically in the program. Yoga instructors made the participants practice pranayama, meditation, micro exercises and various asanas. Besides, students were also given information about the physical and mental benefits of yoga.

It is noteworthy that on the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the United Nations General Assembly had declared June 21 as International Yoga Day in the year 2014. Since then Yoga Day is being celebrated every year all over the world. This year’s program organized in Madhya Pradesh also concluded with the same message that a healthy, active and balanced society can be created by making yoga a part of regular life.
