new labor code
The new Labor Code has brought great relief for crores of working employees of the country. Now companies will have to give appointment letters to employees in a fixed format, in which all the important details related to the job will be clearly written. With this, employees will get clear information about their job role, salary, workplace, responsibilities and social security benefits. The government believes that this step will help in increasing transparency in the employment system and strengthening the rights of employees.
According to Rule 6 issued under the Workplace Safety and Health Rules (OSH), 2026, companies will have to give appointment letters to employees in a fixed format. This document will include complete details of the employee’s job role, category, salary, workplace, allowances, job profile and responsibilities. Apart from this, information about social security benefits like EPFO and ESIC will also be given clearly, so that employees can understand their rights better.
How will employees benefit?
Experts believe that standardized appointment letters will reduce confusion among employees. Many times the employee did not get complete information about the salary structure, work responsibilities or other facilities after joining. Now with all the necessary details available in the written form, the possibility of disputes in future will be reduced. Employees will also know what legal benefits they will get and what are the terms and conditions of their employment.
Will the rule be immediately applicable to all companies?
Although this rule is part of the new labor code of the central government, it will not be immediately applicable to all companies. Under the Labor Law, the Central and State Governments will have to notify these rules in their respective areas. If a company comes under the purview of the state government, then this system will be effective there only after the rules are implemented by that state. Therefore, the time of its implementation may be different in different states.
What will be the impact on the private sector?
According to legal experts, this change is important for private sector companies also. The format decided by the Central Government will not be directly applicable to all private companies, but after the rules of the states are notified, the companies will have to follow it. This will make the hiring process more transparent and strengthen the trust between employees and companies. Besides, employment disputes are also likely to reduce.
Transparency will come in employment system
The new labor code is being considered a big step towards clarifying the rights of employees. Appointment letters with a uniform format will provide employees with complete information about the terms and conditions of employment and will make them more aware of their legal rights. Experts say that this will make the employment system more transparent and accountable in both organized and semi-organized sectors.
