TV Actor Issues Death Threat To Kamal Haasan Over Sanatana Dharma Remarks

Kamal Haasan has been in the news since his remarks against Sanatana Dharma, and as calls for a boycott have grown, he has now received a death threat. The actor-politican criticized the central government’s National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), claiming that it has dashed the hopes of numerous MBBS candidates and that it is a ‘ill outcome of Sanatana Dharma’ at the 15th anniversary celebration of Tamil celebrity Suriya’s non-profit organization, Agaram Foundation.

Television actor Ravichandran referred to Kamal Haasan as a ‘naive politician’ in a YouTube interview, even threatening to ‘slit his throat’ for his anti-Sanatan remarks. These remarks come as a serious concern for the actor’s fans and followers. Makkal Needhi Maiam’s office-bearers responded by complaining to the Chennai Police Commissioner, asking for an inquiry into the occurrence and the necessary legal action.

What Did Kamal Haasan Say About Sanatana Dharma?

Kamal Haasan said, “In this war, only education has the power to change the nation. It’s the only weapon that can break the chains of dictatorship and Sanatana. Do not take any other weapon in your hands. You can’t win with any other weapon. Because you will be defeated by majoritarianism; ignorant majoritarians will defeat you.”

Following his comments on Sanatana Dharma, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Tamil Nadu chapter has called for a boycott of movies starring actor-politician Kamal Haasan. Amar Prasad Reddy, the state secretary for the BJP, urged Hindus to refrain from viewing Haasan’s films, even on over-the-top portals. He said, “If we do this, they will stop making irresponsible comments that hurt the sentiments of millions of Hindus.” Senior BJP politician Tamilisai Soundararajan also criticised Kamal Haasan and denounced his remarks.

For the unversed, Kamal Haasan was also criticised for saying that Kannada was ‘born out of Tamil’ in Karnataka prior to the premiere of his most recent movie, Thug Life helmed by Mani Ratnam. Due to his refusal to seek an apology, the incident caused his film’s Karnataka release to be delayed.
