Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Bhutan, will launch 1,020 MW hydro project

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going on an official visit to Bhutan on 1112 November. The Ministry of External Affairs said that this visit will provide an opportunity to further develop the old trust, friendship and strong relations between India and Bhutan. Bhutan is a very close neighbor of India and there has been a special partnership between the two countries for decades.

During this two-day visit, Prime Minister Modi will meet King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk of Bhutan. Both the leaders will together inaugurate the 1,020 MW Puntsangchu-II Hydroelectric Project. This big power project has been prepared in partnership between India and Bhutan and will further strengthen the economic relations between India and Bhutan along with the energy needs of Bhutan.

Trade, development, security and regional issues will be discussed between the countries.

PM Modi will also attend the 70th birthday celebrations of Bhutan’s fourth king, Jigme Singye Wangchuck. This ceremony is very important for Bhutan, because the fourth king is counted among the leaders who laid the foundation of modern Bhutan. Apart from this, Modi will also meet Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, in which trade, development, security and regional issues between the two countries will be discussed.

PM will participate in Global Peace Prayer Festival

A special aspect of this journey is that the Piprahwa relics of Lord Buddha taken from India are currently being displayed in Bhutan. Prime Minister Modi will visit Tashichhotzong in Thimphu and offer prayers to these holy relics. He will also participate in the Global Peace Prayer Festival organized by the Government of Bhutan, where the message of peace and goodwill in the world will be discussed.

The Foreign Ministry said that relations between India and Bhutan are based on mutual trust, respect and understanding. This visit of PM Modi will give both the countries an opportunity to deepen their cooperation, discuss new opportunities and share views on global and regional issues. This visit is being considered as another important step in the relations between the two countries.
