Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 184 new MP houses. These houses are built in 4 towers. They are named Krishna, Godavari, Kosi and Hooghly. On the occasion of the inauguration, PM Modi said in his address, just as these four rivers of the country give life to crores of people, similarly a new stream of bliss will flow in the life of the people living in the four towers in their name.

Krishna: 1400 km long river originates from Maharashtra
Krishna is a special river in many ways. It originates from Satara district of Maharashtra. It passes through Mahadev hills near Mahabaleshwar in the district and passes through many states. Leaving Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh fall into the Bay of Bengal. It is 1400 km long.

Nashik’s Kumbh Mela and many pilgrimage centers are its banks.
Paddy is cultivated on a large scale in Godavari Delta. This river has a special role in fisheries and water transport. Many ancient temples and many pilgrimage centers like Bhadrachalam are situated on its banks. It increases soil fertility and plays an important role in maintaining water levels.

Kosi: This river is called mourning of Bihar
This is the main tributary of Ganga, which leaves Nepal and joins the Ganges flowing in Bihar. Its rising water level in the monsoon takes floods. People have also seen its destructive form. This is the reason why it is also called mourning of Bihar. This river, a 630 km long, brings fertile soil with it and also works to increase the risk of flood. This is important for irrigation.

Kosi in Nepal is called Saptakosi.
Mountains like Mount Everest and Kanchenjunga, the world’s highest summit, come under the purview of Kosi. In Nepal it is called Saptakosi because it is formed by the flow of seven rivers Indravati, Sunkosi or Bhot Kosi, Tamba Kosi, Doodh Kosi, Doodh Kosi, Arun Kosi and Tamar Kosi.
Hooghly: Lifeline of West Bengal
This is called the lifeline of West Bengal. It separates from the Ganges near Farakka Barrage in Malda, West Bengal and takes the form of a river. 260 km long Hooghly leaves from West Bengal and falls into the Bay of Bengal. Kolkata ports and Haldia ports are built on the banks of this river.

From a religious perspective, Gangasagar pilgrimage site is part of it. Kolkata and the surrounding industrial area developed on the banks of this river. During the British rule, this river used to be the main route for European traders in India.
