Despite all the questions and criticism, India defeated Australia 2-1 in the T20 series. The fifth and last match of the series played in Brisbane could not be completed due to rain and it was declared cancelled. In this way, Team India won the T20 series in Australia for the fifth consecutive time. The opening partnership of Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill remained in the news throughout this series and after the end of the series, Abhishek also expressed his feelings about it. Captain Suryakumar Yadav revealed that there is a special competition between Gill and Abhishek.
In the last match of the series in Brisbane on Saturday 8th November, Team India came out to bat first but the match was stopped within just 4.5 overs and then the match was canceled right here. However, in the entire duration of the game, Abhishek and Gill together scored 52 runs. Both of them hit some explosive shots. Gill’s bat in particular was on fire and the Indian vice-captain, who was criticized for his slow batting in the last four matches, entertained the fans.
After the match, when Abhishek Sharma and captain Suryakumar Yadav came to the press conference, both of them were asked questions about this opening pair. On one side there is Abhishek who bats hard and on the other side there is Gill who bats carefully. Therefore, when a question was asked regarding this opening pair as ‘fire and ice’, Abhishek said, “I feel that it is fire and fire only, the ice is no longer there as he was playing today. We have been playing together since under-12, so the coordination with him is good. I know which shots he wants to play. Similarly, he also knows which shots I can play.”
Q: Your partnership with Shubman Gill is often described as an Ice and Fire combination. What’s your take on that?
Abhishek Sharma: Id actually say were more like fire and fire. The way Shubman was batting today. We’ve been playing together since the Under 12 days, so there’s pic.twitter.com/lFktkmI5Ia
