Select healthy and fresh sugarcane
First of all choose a healthy, thick and disease free sugarcane. Keep in mind that there are enough nodes in the sugarcane, because new shoots emerge from these nodes. Using dry, rotten or insect infested sugarcane reduces the chances of germination. By picking fresh sugarcane the plants grow faster.
