Kaal Bhairav Jayanti 2025: Kaal Bhairav Jayanti, also known as Bhairav Ashtami, Kaal Bhairav Ashtami and Bhairav Jayanti, is a holy festival in Hinduism. On this day Lord Shiva incarnated in his fifth form as Kaal Bhairav. Bhairav Jayanti falls every year on Ashtami Tithi (eighth day) of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month. This date usually falls in November, December or January. This year, Ashtami Tithi will start on 11th November 2025 at 11:08 PM and will continue till 10:58 PM on 12th November. Therefore, Bhairav Ashtami, Kaalbhairav Ashtami or Kaal Bhairav Jayanti will be celebrated on 12th November. It is believed that worshiping Lord Bhairav on this day removes fear, obstacles and negativity.
Lord Kaal Bhairav is also known as Dandapani
In the Sanatan tradition, Kaal Bhairav, considered to be the fifth incarnation of Lord Shiva, is described as extremely fierce and powerful. Lord Bhairav, who holds a trident, sword and stick in his hands, is also known as Dandapani. A total of 64 Bhairavs are mentioned in the Rudrayam Tantra, but mainly two forms, Batuk Bhairav and Kaal Bhairav, are worshipped. While the form of Batuk Bhairav is considered benign, the form of Kaal Bhairav is a symbol of anger and justice.
Why is Lord Bhairav worshipped?
According to Hindu beliefs, even Kaal is afraid of God Bhairav. The person who worships him remains free from any fear, enemy or adversity in life. By worshiping Kaal Bhairav, negative energy gets eliminated from a person’s life and he moves forward in life with confidence. It is mentioned in the scriptures that by worshiping Bhairav, obstacles are removed and the devotees get victory and prosperity.
Puja method of Kaal Bhairav Jayanti
On the day of Kaal Bhairav Jayanti, it is considered auspicious to take bath in Brahma Muhurta and go to the temple of Lord Bhairav. Devotees should first offer Ganga water to God. After this, offer incense, lamp, fruits, flowers, betel nut, betel leaves and sweets. Offer Imarti or Jalebi and perform Aarti of Lord Bhairav. By doing this Lord Bhairav becomes pleased quickly and fulfills all the wishes of the devotees.

Story of Lord Kaal Bhairav
According to mythological belief, once there was a dispute between Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva regarding superiority. When most of the gods declared Shiva and Vishnu superior, Brahma became angry and started abusing Lord Shiva. Seeing this, due to the anger of Lord Shiva, Kaal Bhairav was born, who cut off one of the five heads of Brahma. It is said that this incident happened on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Margashirsha month and since then this day is celebrated as Kaal Bhairav Jayanti.
