When is Nirjala Ekadashi 2026?
According to Drik Panchang, waterless in the year 2026 Ekadashi The date will start from 6:12 pm on June 24, 2026 and will continue till 8:09 pm on June 25, 2026. According to Udayatithi, the fast of Nirjala Ekadashi will be observed on Thursday, June 25, 2026. On this day, devotees will observe a waterless fast after worshiping Lord Vishnu.
Time of Nirjala Ekadashi Parana
Ekadashi fast is broken on Dwadashi date. In the year 2026, Nirjala Ekadashi fast will be observed on June 26 from 5:25 am to 8:13 am. At the same time, Dwadashi Tithi will end at 10.22 pm on 26th June. There is a religious belief that by observing Parana at the right time one gets the full results of the fast.
Why is Nirjala Ekadashi considered special?
There is a very interesting mythological story behind this Ekadashi. During the Mahabharata period, among the Pandavas, except Bhimsen, all the brothers and mother Kunti and Draupadi used to fast on every Ekadashi. But Bhima felt very hungry due to which he could not bear the hunger and had difficulty in keeping the fast. Bhima put his problem before Maharishi Vedvyas and asked if there was any solution by which he could attain salvation without fasting on every Ekadashi?
Then Maharishi Vedvyas told him that if he observes a strict fast only once in a year on Nirjala Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month, then he will attain the same virtue as all the 24 Ekadashis of the year. Bhima followed this order and observed this difficult fast without drinking water. For this reason it is also called Bhimseni Ekadashi or Pandav Ekadashi.
Worship method of Nirjala Ekadashi
On the day of Nirjala Ekadashi, wake up early in the morning, take bath and wear clean clothes. After this worship Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi. Offer yellow flowers, Tulsi leaves, fruits and Panchamrit to God. Chanting Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya mantra on this day is considered very auspicious. Devotees observe fast throughout the day and recite bhajan-kirtan and Vishnu Sahasranama.
Donation also has special significance on this day
Donating a pitcher filled with water, umbrella, clothes, fan, fruits and sherbet etc. on the day of Nirjala Ekadashi is considered very virtuous. It is believed that this pleases Lord Vishnu and removes the problems of life.
