LSG Coaching Staff joins Durban side as Player ahead of IPL 2026 Auction

New Zealand batting star Kane Williamson has rejoined Durban’s Super Giants (DSG) ahead of the SA20 Season 4, replacing Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam in the squad.

The move strengthens DSG’s top order, bringing back one of their most consistent performers from last season.

Williamson, who captained New Zealand across formats, was DSG’s leading run-scorer in the previous SA20 edition, amassing 233 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of 132. His calm presence and tactical acumen are expected to boost a batting lineup that already features Heinrich Klaasen and Matthew Breetzke.

The 34-year-old’s return comes from the synergy between the Super Giants franchises across leagues. Williamson is currently part of Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL system, with both teams sharing common ownership under the RPSG Group.

Williamson was recently roped in as the strategic advisor for LSG, and has now been drafted in as a player for the sister franchise in South Africa.

“I’m really excited to be joining LSG. They have a hugely talented squad and a great group of coaches, which I’m looking forward to working alongside. It’s always special being involved in the IPL, the best franchise competition in the game,” Williamson said after joining LSG.

The Kiwi is tipped to be a key member behind LSG’s upcoming season’s plans. The Super Giants are expected to offload a number of players, which includes the likes of Mayank Yadav, who was retained for Rs 11 crore ahead of the mega auction last year.

SA20 Season 4 is scheduled to begin on December 26, with Durban’s Super Giants facing MI Cape Town in the tournament opener. The team will hope Williamson’s inclusion adds the stability and leadership required to push for their maiden title after a strong 2025 campaign that ended just short of the playoffs.
