Prime Minister crop insurance scheme
Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme: Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan will transfer crop insurance claims worth Rs 3200 crore to 30 lakh farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Scheme (PMFBY) on Monday. This program will be held in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Union Minister of State for Agriculture Bhagirath Chaudhary and State Agriculture Minister Kirori Lal Meena will also be involved in this event.
Out of this total amount, Rs 1156 crore will be transferred to the farmers of Madhya Pradesh, Rs 1121 crore to 7 lakh farmers of Rajasthan, Rs 150 crore to the farmers of Chhattisgarh and Rs 773 crore to the farmers of other states. According to an official statement, the central government has implemented a new simplified claim settlement system in the interest of farmers. Under this, now the claim can be paid proportionally on the basis of subsidy of the Center without waiting for the premium contribution of the state government.
The Agriculture Minister said that if a state government delays its subsidy contribution from the Kharif 2025 season, then it will have a penalty of 12 percent. Similarly, if insurance companies delay the payment, then farmers will get compensation with 12 percent penalty.
When did you start?
PMFBY started in 2016, and since then claims worth Rs 1.83 lakh crore have been distributed, while farmers have deposited a premium of only Rs 35,864 crore. This means that more than five times the claim has been paid on an average compared to the premium, which reflects the government’s farmer-interest policy. In recent years, technological innovations such as YES-Tech, Winds Portal, Aide Mobile App, and Agricultural Guard Portal have been implemented. These have not only increased the speed and transparency of claim settlement, but also improved the accuracy of weather data and registration facility for farmers at the village level.
