Peepal Tree Significance: Peepal tree is considered very sacred in Sanatan Dharma. It is said in the scriptures and Puranas that the creator of the world Brahma ji, the sustainer of the universe Lord Shri Hari Vishnu and the god of destruction Mahadev reside in this tree. Lord Krishna himself has described the importance of this tree in Geeta. Lord Shri Krishna has said in Geeta for Peepal, ‘Ashvatthah Sarvavrikshanam, Moolato Brahmarupaya Madhyato Vishnurupine, Agratah Shivrupaya Ashvatthaya Namo Namah.’

Shri Krishna tells Arjun that I am the Peepal tree among the trees. Brahma ji resides in its root, Vishnu ji resides in the trunk and Lord Shiva resides in the front part or leaves of the tree. According to Skanda Purana also, Lord Vishnu resides in the root of Peepal, Keshav i.e. Shri Krishna in the trunk, Narayan in the branches or branches and all the gods reside in the fruits, but even after this, worship of Peepal tree is prohibited on Sunday. It is believed that doing this brings poverty into the house.

According to the story…

There is a story behind the reason behind not worshiping Peepal tree on Sunday. According to the story, once Goddess Lakshmi and her destitute sister Daridra approached Lord Vishnu and asked for a place to stay. On this, God asked Goddess Lakshmi and her sister to live in the Peepal tree. After this, both the sisters took up residence in Peepal. After this, once Lord Vishnu talked about marriage with Goddess Lakshmi. On this the mother said that she could marry only after Daridra got married.

After this, Lord Vishnu asked Daridra what kind of groom she wanted. On this, Daridra said that she wants a groom who never worships and keeps her in a place where no one worships. According to the boon sought by Daridra, God got her married to a sage and asked her to reside in Peepal, his abode on Sundays.

Poverty prevails on Peepal tree on Sunday

In this way, the gods do not reside in the Peepal tree on Sunday. On this day poverty resides on the tree. Therefore, it is advised not to worship Peepal tree on Sunday. On worshiping Peepal tree on this day, poverty becomes happy and enters the house of the one who worships.
