Subramaniam Temple, located in Sulya Taluka of Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka, is a temple filled with many legends. It is believed that the wish of having a son is fulfilled by visiting and worshiping in Kukke Subramaniam temple. This temple is dedicated to Lord Subramaniam. Subramaniam is a form of Lord Kartikeya. Devotees believe that by worshiping here, obstacles related to progeny are removed and they are blessed with a son. Here Subramaniam is worshiped in the form of a snake in the temple and it is said that the legend of this temple is five thousand years old. Here snake ritual and special puja is done for the remission of sins. Lord Subramanya is worshiped as the lord of all serpents. It also has religious significance as it is a major pilgrimage site for people suffering from Sarp Dosh and special pujas like ‘Ashlesha Bali’ and ‘Sarp Sanskar’ are performed here. According to mythology, Vasuki and other serpents came to this temple to seek shelter from Lord Subramanya to escape from Garuda.

Subramaniam Temple is built in Dravidian style and is situated in the lap of Kumar Parvat. Kumardhara river flows nearby here, where devotees take bath. Many festivals including ‘Lakshdeepotsav’ are celebrated here. This temple is also famous for its income and is considered one of the richest temples in Karnataka.
