He wanted to achieve dominance in everything. To take revenge for cutting off the nose of his sister Shurpanakha, he had abducted Mother Sita.

When Ravana abducted Mother Sita and took her to Lanka, Lord Ram and Lakshman were very upset. Lord Ram and Lakshman were searching everywhere for Mother Sita. At that time a bird had told him the address of Mother Sita. This was Jatayu. When Ravana was abducting Mother Sita and taking her to Lanka, she was trying hard to free herself.

War between Jatayu and Ravana

At that time Jatayu tried to stop Ravana. He started a war with Ravana. Jatayu attacked Ravana to save Mother Sita, but Ravana cut off Jatayu’s wings, due to which Jatayu fell on the ground. Before his death, he told Lord Ram and Lakshman that Ravana had taken away Mother Sita.

However, he could not tell where Ravana had taken Mother Sita. When everyone like Jamwant, Angad and Hanuman ji were searching for Mother Sita, they saw a huge bird sitting on the mountain. This bird was Jatayu’s brother Sampati. Jamwant narrated Ram’s plight to Sampati. Then Hanuman ji told the whole incident to Sampati. The news of Jatayu’s death was also given.

After hearing about Jatayu’s death, Sampati started looking here and there. His eyes were very sharp and had the ability to see clearly over long distances. He could see very far away clearly. Sampati saw that Ravana had taken Mother Sita to Lanka. He told this to Jamwant and Hanuman ji. It was also told that to reach Lanka they would have to cross a huge ocean.
