Team India’s star fast bowler Mohammed Shami is constantly in the headlines these days and the reason for this is not his performance on the field but things outside it. Shami remains in the news due to his not being selected in Team India. Now once again his ongoing dispute with Haseen Jahan has come to the fore. Shami’s estranged wife Hasin Jahan has appealed to the Supreme Court for higher maintenance allowance. Haseen Jahan has appealed to the court that her maintenance allowance should be increased to Rs 10 lakh per month.
Mohammed Shami and Hasin Jahan have been living separately for the last 7 years. In 2018, Haseen Jahan had filed an FIR against Shami and his family accusing him of domestic violence and harassment. Since then the case of both is going on in the courts. Initially, a trial court had ordered Shami to pay an interim maintenance allowance of Rs 1.3 lakh to Haseen Jahan every month. But in July 2025, the Calcutta High Court had increased it to Rs 4 lakh per month, out of which Rs 1.5 lakh was for Haseen Jahan and Rs 2.50 lakh for her daughter.
Now Haseen Jahan has challenged the order of Calcutta High Court in the Supreme Court and has demanded that the interim allowance of her and her daughter should be increased to Rs 10 lakh. Hasin Jahan has been demanding an allowance of Rs 10 lakh since the beginning, of which Rs 7 lakh has been demanded for herself and Rs 3 lakh for her daughter. However, his demand was not accepted in the trial court and then in the High Court. Now while appealing in the Supreme Court, Hasin Jahan has claimed that Shami is an A-listed national cricketer and a person with a net-worth of around Rs 500 crore.
In this appeal, it has been said that there is a lot of difference in the status of the cricketer and the victim and Shami is not paying the maintenance allowance accordingly, which can improve the standard of living of Haseen Jahan and her daughter. Haseen Jahan, citing other cricketers in her appeal, has said that like the families of other elite cricketers, they too have the right to live a life of the same standard, but this is not happening due to proper support from the accused cricketer.
