As soon as the selfie of a woman lawyer from Pune with ink on her finger went viral, Congress made serious allegations of “vote theft” on BJP. The caption of the post read – “Voted for Modi-fied India. Cast your vote for Jai, Bihar.” What happened next, there was a flurry of questions on social media – did the same woman really vote in two states or was it just a joke?

Congress workers claimed that this selfie is an example of ‘multi-state voting’. He took out photographs of the woman casting her vote in Old Pune and said that BJP is misusing the system. Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi had earlier also made similar allegations in the Haryana elections. He said that some people are voting in multiple booths with the same name.

Battle of ‘vote theft’ started on social media
Congress social media coordinator Reshma Alam took a sharp dig, “Multi-state voting is the new startup, investor BJP, product fake mandate.” Maharashtra Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe Patil also wrote sarcastically, “I will vote in Maharashtra in the Lok Sabha, vote in Bihar in the Assembly, and steal votes for Modi.” RJD spokesperson in Bihar Priyanka Bharti also targeted BJP on this matter. He said, “Madam voted in Maharashtra in 2024, now she is voting in Bihar in 2025. This is the new Modi model.”
Female lawyer clarified, “It was just motivation”
After the controversy escalated, female lawyer Urmi gave clarification on social media. He said, “I never said that I voted today. My post was only to motivate the voters of Bihar. Everyone knows that I voted in Maharashtra.” He further wrote, “Now it is your turn Bihar, go vote.”
