Delhi Airport Shock! Did the sudden failure of the ATC server at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Airport bring the flight system to a complete halt? More than 100 flights late, Indigo issued advisory, but was it just a technical mistake or some bigger game?
New Delhi: Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI Airport) of the country’s capital Delhi became the center of chaos on Thursday. A sudden technical glitch brought the Air Traffic Control (ATC) server to a standstill, affecting more than 100 flights. Passengers had to wait for hours inside the plane and at the boarding gate. Airline companies described it as a “major technical problem”, while passengers expressed anger on social media.
Is not only Delhi, entire North India affected?
According to reports, due to the ATC server being down, not only Delhi but the air routes of the entire North Zone were affected. Many flights had to be diverted in the air, while some were diverted to nearby airports. Delays were recorded on both arrival and departure. Passengers said that they had to wait for several hours without any clear information.
Passengers chanted “No flight, no information!”
Passengers shared videos on social media platforms Twitter and Instagram saying they were either stuck inside the plane or standing in long queues at the boarding gates. Many questioned that if pollution is not the reason, then why do such technical problems occur again and again at Delhi Airport?
Indigo gave clarification, said “sorry for the technical problem”
IndiGo Airlines said in a statement, “There has been a technical glitch in the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system at Delhi Airport, due to which flights in Delhi and northern regions have been affected.” The airline further said that its ground teams are engaged in assisting passengers and efforts are being made to normalize operations soon. He also appealed to the passengers to check the updates on the website.
Is there a possibility of system failure or cyber attack?
So far the only official report has been “server failure”, but some sources say that this type of server down problem is not common. The question is arising whether this was just a technical mistake or is there something hidden behind it like a cyber attack? At present, DGCA and a team of technical experts are engaged in the investigation.
When will the ATC system be fixed?
According to airport sources, technical teams have started restoring the servers and operations are gradually being restored. However, the impact of flight delays still continues. The airport administration has claimed that the safety and convenience of passengers is the top priority.
Technology becomes headache, not pollution
Delhi often faces flight delays due to smog and visibility problems, but this time the reason was something else. This time the failure of technology troubled the passengers for hours. Now everyone’s eyes are on the report of DGCA and Airport Authority, which will tell how the server got stuck at the busiest airport of the country?
