NH-48 Traffic Jam Claims Life As Ambulance Fails To Reach Mumbai Hospital In Time: ‘She Begged…’

NH-48 Traffic Jam: A Maharashtra woman lost her life after the ambulance she was being taken in got stuck in a massive traffic jam on national highway 48. 49-year-old Chhaya Purav from Maharashtra’s Palghar district was critically injured on July 31 after a tree branch fell on her in Madhukar Nagar.

At 6 pm, when the effect of the anaesthesia started reducing, Chhaya experienced excessive pain. She was then taken to Orbit Hospital on Mira Road, about 30 km away from Hinduja Hospital. However, the doctors declared her dead.

“I saw her suffering in unbearable pain for four hours,” Chhaya’s husband Kaushik said as quoted by NDTV. He further said that his wife could have been saved if they had reached the hospital just 30 minutes earlier.

Kaushik further said that all efforts to save his wife were hampered by the traffic horror on NH-48.

“The road was full of potholes and that put her in so much pain. She was screaming in pain and crying. She begged to take her to a hospital at the earliest. But we were stuck, vehicles were driven from the wrong side, making the traffic jam worse,” he said.
