Lexus India has announced a voluntary recall campaign for its luxury models – LM, LX, LS, NX and RX, to update the software of the Parking Assist ECU, which controls the Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) system.
According to Lexus, this recall affects 1,588 vehicles in total, all manufactured between November 2021 and August 2025.
For new or casual readers who might not know, a recall doesn’t always mean something is broken or unsafe. In the automotive world, it is often a proactive measure taken by responsible manufacturers to fix potential issues before they cause problems. In this case, Lexus is simply updating the software that controls the vehicle’s rear-view camera system which is a feature used when reversing or parking.
What’s being fixed
According to Lexus, there is a minor software error in the Parking Assist ECU that could cause the rear-view camera image to freeze briefly when the car is put in reverse shortly after ignition. In rare cases, the image might not appear at all if the car is turned off and restarted within a specific time frame. While this doesn’t affect the vehicle’s driving performance or mechanical safety, it could temporarily affect visibility during reversing, hence the recall by the brand.
The breakdown of affected models includes 258 units of the LM, 136 of the LX, 6 of the LS, 443 of the NX and 745 of the RX. Lexus has confirmed that no incidents or complaints have been reported in India so far.
In fact, to ensure customer convenience, Lexus Relationship Managers will personally contact owners of affected vehicles to arrange free software updates. The process will be quick, seamless and completely free of charge.
This move comes shortly after Toyota, which is Lexus parent company, issued a similar recall for its Vellfire, Camry and Land Cruiser models to fix the same software issue. This development shows that both brands are working closely to uphold global safety and quality standards.
For Lexus owners, this recall is simply part of the brand’s long-standing promise of owning luxury with peace of mind, which ensures every drive remains safe, smooth and worry-free.
