Pakistan wicket-keeper batter Azam Khan has shared his opinion on Suryakumar Yadav’s views on the diminished value of the India-Pakistan rivalry.
Though his views look honest and based on the recent stats, he might have just welcomed rivalry with his own team after these remarks.
Controversy between India and Pakistan remained a tale throughout the entire Men’s Asia Cup 2025 competition. Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who is not known to be animated on the field, also joined the controversies with an instigative remark from the press conference.
India faced arch-rivals Pakistan thrice in the Asia Cup 2025, first in the group stage, then in the Super-4, and lastly in the finals, and the Men in Blue registered a strategic and comfortable win every time.
Azam Khan supports the Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav over the bold remark on the Indo-Pak rivalry
During the second win between India and Pakistan in the 2025 Asia Cup, Suryakumar Yadav went on to claim that the questions over any rivalry between India and Pakistan should no longer be asked. Suryakumar Yadav had further claimed that had the two teams played 15-20 games and the results had been a shared 7-all or an 8-7, then it would be known as a rivalry.
The Pakistan vs India stats go down to 13-0 or 10-1, and according to his remarks, this is not a rivalry but a single-sided domination. Pakistani cricketer Azam Khan, son of former Pakistan skipper Moin Khan, has supported Suryakumar Yadav’s claim.
“If you see the ICC tournaments, I think… I don’t know if I should say this, but technically he is correct,” said Moin Khan’s son in a podcast with Crickwick, admitting that the rivalry no longer holds the same edge as before.
Azam Khan last played for Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024
The 27-year-old Pakistani cricketer Azam Khan played as a first-choice wicket-keeper within the side. He has represented Pakistan in 14 T20I games, and the last time he played for them was in the ICC T20 World Cup of 2024.
His father and former Pakistani cricketer Moin Khan had also criticized the selectors for not giving Azam consistent chances in the playing XI. “I watched the entire World Cup and the matches leading up to it, and it seemed like Azam was the number one choice for wicketkeeping and batting,” Moin told Cricket Pakistan.
“Then suddenly, after just one match, the entire strategy changed,” which left the former skipper guessing. Pakistan crashed out of the T20 World Cup in the group stages and then was knocked out without winning a game in the home Champions Trophy.
Azam Khan pointed at a teammate for leaking dressing room information
The Pakistani youngster batter had informed during a podcast that there are players within the Pakistan team who maintain great friendships with the journalists and have accused them of revealing the team’s information and playing XI.
He also said that the Pakistan team lacks unity within itself, and such players who leak information can be treated as traitors and should be considered as a threat to their nation, leading to the snubbing of their central contract.
