What is the old name of Bihar?

According to Mahabharata, India was divided into 16 districts in Dwapar era. Magadha was also one of them. This Magadha is present day Bihar. At that time, if there was any most powerful district after Hastinapur, it was Magadha. At that time there was a mighty king named Jarasandha who considered Shri Krishna as his enemy. Many wars also took place between Shri Krishna and Jarasandha.

Why did Jarasandha become the enemy of Shri Krishna?

According to Mahabharata, Jaransadh had two daughters, whose names were Asti and Prapti. Jarasandha got both of them married to King Kansa of Mathura. When Shri Krishna killed Kansa, Jarasandha started considering him as his enemy. To avenge the death of his son-in-law, Jarasandha attacked Mathura several times but was defeated every time. But to avoid these repeated attacks, Shri Krishna left Mathura and made Dwarka his capital.

Why did Jarasandha want to sacrifice 100 kings?

Jarasandha wanted to sacrifice 100 kings to become the Chakravati emperor. For this he had even imprisoned many kings. At that time, King Yudhishthir of Indraprastha also wanted to perform Rajsuya Yagya to become Chakravarti Rabihaja. Then Shri Krishna explained to them that without killing Jarasandha they would not be able to complete this yagya. Then Shri Krishna made a special plan to kill Jarasandha.

For how many days did the war between Bhima and Jarasandha last?

As per the plan, Shri Krishna, Bhima and Arjuna went to Jarasandha in the form of Brahmins. There Bhima challenged Jarasandha to wrestling. The wrestling match between Jarasandha and Bhima continued for 13 days. Jarasandha was in no way less than Bhima. Then Shri Krishna gestured to Bhima and told him to cut Jarasandha in the middle and throw both its parts in different directions. When Bhima did this, Jarasandha died. After the death of Jarasandha, his son Sahadev was made the king of Magadha by Shri Krishna.
